Thank you for your support of our national-level trusted exchange framework over the last three years! It’s humbling to be a part of our collective work developing the first-of-its-kind framework completely neutral of technology and use case. It’s been an amazing journey since we published the Carequality Interoperability Framework in December 2015, and I’m writing to you today to discuss the next exciting chapter for Carequality.

We are thrilled to share that The Sequoia Project has announced its intention to make Carequality a separate non-profit organization later this summer. This may seem like a subtle shift because we’ve structured Carequality to allow you, its members, to set the direction and governance for the program, but the shift is an important evolution from an initiative of The Sequoia Project to a distinct legal entity. Carequality will have even more freedom to innovate in line with member direction.

The eHealth Exchange is also becoming a separate legal entity. The new corporate structure will assure that each of these vital initiatives has the governance and management resources that they require to continue flourishing.

The Sequoia Project will continue to bring together industry and government to transparently and inclusively develop solutions to the most pressing challenges of health data exchange. Thought leadership will be transformed into leadership action on topics like FHIR®, patient matching, and disaster response planning.

In the coming weeks and months, we will share our progress. In the meantime, please plan to join the Carequality and Sequoia Project member webinar on May 16th at 2:00 p.m. to learn more about the re-organization and ask questions with Sequoia Project CEO Mariann Yeager and Carequality Vice President Dave Cassel.
